With September approaching, now it’s time to analyze realistically, what the A’s chances of being in the playoffs. It was great to see the A’s in a 5 game hit streak, but just like the Giants, it just got snapped with a loss. I usually don’t pay too much attention to the standings, until about August. I think it spoils a season staying fixated on them too early in the season.

With them on that win streak I was starting to feel good. But how realistic is it they can make it to the playoffs? They are 11 games back. Seattle and L.A would both have to roughly lose 2/3 of their games for the rest of the season while the A’s win 2/3 of theirs, in order for the A’s to take the division lead. What makes it difficult is there is two teams, not just one that are 10+ games ahead. While the Athletics aren’t technically eliminated, realistically the playoffs are very very unlikely.
